Feminist theater in many ways was an outlet for the voices of those (women) who were oppressed by the opposite gender. The first plays were often radical declaring wild statement that opposed much of that times ideals. These first forms of the plays did little to help them, so women moved to form their own groups, groups such as the Omaha Magic Theater and the Women's experimental Theater. The plays put on by these groups and others pushed society to reevaluate how it treats women, and what they can do to change the problem. Feminist theater was the roots for other minorities to become involved in theater, it opened the door for other minority groups and the oppressed. Trifles serves as an example of feminist theater more particularly in the time period it was produced, because it portrays women as being not only competent, but almost better than the men making a bold statement that helped society question it treatment of women. Modern feminist moment attempt to be equal with rather than superior to men, which is why I don't believe Trifles fits well with today's society.
